Efficient solution for maintenance
Efficiency is crucial in maintenance. During a recent maintenance of a passenger elevator, the customer was forced to replace the entire, costly component assembly, even though only one gear in the drive's gearbox was defective.
Task: Produce a spare part that does not yet exist.
Since the drive manufacturer does not offer spare parts for the gearbox or the motor, another procurement method had to be developed.
Solution: A pinion from the 3D printer
Our solution was to measure the defective gear, retroactively redesign it, and then replace it with a printed copy. Now, a spare part is available for repair without having to replace the entire component. We selected the material for the new gear based on the specific requirements of the application. The material chosen was igus Igidur i3.
The challenge: reconstructing worn and destroyed components.
The biggest challenge was that the originally defective component was already heavily worn, making it difficult to determine the exact fit. Through a short, iterative process, we were still able to ensure that the fit was achieved.
The customer benefit:
Replacing the defective gear with a printed copy offers the customer the advantage of having the spare part manufactured without having to store it. "The data set is simply ordered from a service provider in the appropriate quantity and delivered on time." It couldn't be simpler. This leads to efficient maintenance and significantly reduces costs.
Our innovative approach enables us to meet our customers' needs while finding efficient solutions that optimize operations and promote sustainable solutions.
