Who are you?

We are a passionate group of experts in additive manufacturing, each with a specific area of expertise. Together with a network of external specialists, we can draw on any know-how relevant to our tasks. Since our founding in 2017 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, we have been firmly anchored in the heart of the Ruhr region. The structural change in the Ruhr area continues - we want to do our small part with additive manufacturing, which we believe is of enormous importance for the future.

What fascinates you about 3D printing?

With 3D printing, it is now possible for the first time to actually produce any imaginable shape and geometry, no matter how complex it may be. With this freedom, creative engineers can not only improve technical components, but also the processes behind them. Complex assemblies with many individual parts can now be replaced by a single 3D printed part, and we only bring material to where it is actually needed. This is how we create lightweight structures that were previously unthinkable. Now that production is also economical as a single piece or in small series, we can adapt products individually to a single customer and also only produce them once, as with individual prostheses, for example. The product development process is also shortened. Instead of long design processes in theory, we can produce a first functioning version of the product very early on and hold it in our hands, test it, feel it and experience it. This means that the product is developed in a much more targeted manner. I am impressed by how quickly additive manufacturing is developing. New processes and materials are coming onto the market every day. I am convinced that 3D printing has a great future and it is up to us to shape it.

What is your goal, what drives you?

Solving technical problems is the basis of everything we do and additive manufacturing is an incredibly powerful tool for this. Unfortunately, additive manufacturing is often still perceived as a prototyping process and not as the revolutionary manufacturing method that it is. Our goal is to change that by reducing the barriers to entry for companies and supporting them in the introduction of this new technology.

Among engineers in particular, you hear far too often "That doesn't work" or "We've always done it that way". For me, however, the engineering profession is highly creative and additive manufacturing gives us the freedom to implement this creativity technically. For me, a good day is one on which we have proven that it is possible!

Why is your name Sweet & friends?

In 2017, I thought long and hard about the name. We didn't want a typical name that included the words "tech" or "3D". For me, bringing people and ideas together was the basis of the company from the very beginning.

With additive manufacturing, we have a new technology and therefore the first priority is to create trust. Trust among the decision-makers who want to introduce this new technology into a company, but even more trust among the people who are actually supposed to live and work with it. In addition, an essential part of our work is to collaborate with other companies and specialists. These include, for example, manufacturers of 3D printing systems and materials or software manufacturers and 3D printing service providers. In general, I think it is very important to be able to discuss things on the same level in order to develop new ideas and create technical solutions. All employees and partners, especially external and freelance ones, should feel like part of the family. With the name Süß & friends, we express exactly that. Technical innovations can only be created by bringing people with different ideas and skills together. This is especially true for a new, completely digital technology such as additive manufacturing. I therefore invite anyone who is interested to become part of Süß & friends.

Why work with Süß & friends?

As an independent company specializing in additive manufacturing, we can always provide neutral advice when it comes to selecting additive processes and the wide variety of different materials available for 3D printing. Our know-how and the insider information available to us are highly valued by our customers. As a small, energetic team, we have an agility that characterizes both our new creative way of thinking and the downstream processes. Complemented by the speed of additive manufacturing, this results in very rapid implementation and the enormously high degree of customization that we can offer our customers and partners.
